Best Freeware/Shareware software for stock/inventory control?

They all seem to tell you the same stuff but just wondering if enough people out there tell me the same one will mean it really is the best one. I really need to get a handle on my home business stock!

1. Excellent open source software - works best on a virus free linux computer, Mac, or Windows. Lots of power, good price (GNU licence) With Ubuntu it's extremely easy - because it takes maybe 5 minutes to set up Apache and mySQL.
